Willie Nelson & Merle Haggard - Django and Jimmie
Put two country music icons in the same room and you're gonna get a sure fire feel good album before the night's over. Although this Django And Jimmie is a studio produced work, Merle and Willie are so relaxed and easy going it feels like a song swap or a back porch music scene. There's several tributes on the album including the title track and an ode to Johnny Cash. There's also a couple of covers including Haggard's "Swinging Doors," and Dylan's "Don't Think Twice, It's Alright." There's a couple of fun new tunes too including "It's All Going To Pot," "Alice In Hulaland," and my personal favorite, "It's Only Money." I think what's most impressive about this album is how well these two guys can harmonize with each other. They both have very distinctive singing styles, but the take great care to blend their voices together so that neither singer dominates. That's a true mark of professionalism as well as a great indicator of the respect they have for each other.
I'm adding "It's All Going To Pot," "Alice In Hulaland," "Don't Think Twice, It's Alright," "It's Only Money," and "Swinging Doors" to rotation.
