I'm super excited to announce that Ben Miller of the Ben Miller Band is my scheduled interview guest on the live edition of the Americana Music Show tonight, October 6th at 9pm Eastern time (UTC/GMT-4).
We'll be playing tracks from their latest album, Any Way, Shape, Or Form. It's full of stomp blues, trance blues, that kind of thing. You'll hear a wall of sound that includes instruments like "electric spoons," "electric washboard," and a home made bass.
I'll also be playing new music from NQ Arbuckle, Jonathan Byrd, and Lee Ann Womack.
As always, locals can tune in at 103.5 FM. Everyone else can tune in online at http://wcomfm.org/
More info about the band:
The band formed sometime aroudn 2005 in Joplin Missouri. Ben Miller was hosting an open mic night series and through that he met Doug Dicharry and Scott Leeper.
I can only describe their sound as trance blues/stomp blues. Kinda in the same vein as Scott H. Biram but more psychedelic. Ben Miller is the front man and plays both slide guitar and fingerpicking styles. Ben Miller also plays harmonica, a mean banjo, and does most of the singing. Doug Dicharry is the rhythm guy and plays a bizarre array of washboards, spoons, and drums. He also plays trombone on a few pieces that adds a southern touch to the sound. Scott Leeper plays an amazing Rube Goldberg of a home made one-string washtub bass that uses a line form a weed-eater.
They have made a name for themselves putting out two indie albums on their own and constantly touring both the US and Europe. Their big break was when they got the chance to tour with ZZ Top for a while. That led to a deal with New West Records and their latest album, Any Way, Shape, Or Form.
