By submitting music and related materials to the Americana Music Show, you acknowledge that you are the rights holder or an agent working on behalf of the rights holder and that you are submitting the music and related materials to Taproot Media for promotional purposes to expand the market for the submitted material.
By submitting material to the Americana Music Show, you hereby grant to Taproot Media permission to play the music, and a limited license to use, modify, publicly perform, publicly display, reproduce, and distribute the submitted materials on any Taproot Media production, anywhere in the world. The license you grant to Taproot Media is non-exclusive (meaning you are free to license your material to anyone else), fully-paid, and royalty-free (meaning that Taproot Media is not required to pay you).

Taproot Media Productions
When you submit music to Taproot Media, it will be auditioned. If tracks from your album are accepted, they will be added to the rotation playlist and listed in the "recent adds" section of the weekly newsletter. If you want to be informed when your album has been added to rotation, the best thing to do is to sign up for the weekly newsletter and check the recent adds section every week.
The rotation list is used to feed music to the following productions:
The Americana Music Show on WHUP
This is the weekly radio show where most of the interviews for the Americana Music show occur. It airs on Wednesday nights from 7-10pm Eastern time. To listen to the live show, visit the the live show page. WHUP covers the royalty issues for the station.
The Americana Music Show Podcast
The Americana Music Show features live performances, band interviews and CD tracks from recently released CDs. Due to the royalty rates for podcasts, your music cannot be featured on the podcast unless you grant a royalty-free license to play the music for promotional purposes, as described in the policy above, making the show Podsafe.
The Americana Music Show on East Nashville Radio
The Americana Music Show is syndicated on East Nashville Radio, who handles the royalty fees for artists.
Only full albums that are commercially available for sale will be auditioned. (Yes, "EPs" are OK too) "Singles" or selected tracks from albums will not be auditioned.
Music must be submitted as a physical album or downloadable MP3s. I cannot audition streamed music on services like SoundCloud, BandCamp, etc. I cannot accept submissions on vinyl. If I can't import it into iTunes, I can't audition it.
Electronic submissions are allowed, but physical CDs get top priority. Contact Calvin at the above address if you wish to use services like DropBox or other means of submitting large files electronically.
Electronic submissions MUST have MP3 tag data on every MP3 file, including title, artist, album name, and track number. Likewise physical CDs must have track information burned on the disk or must be registered in GraceNote so that iTunes can look up the track information. Make sure your MP3 files or CD can be imported into iTunes with all the album and track data before sending them to the Americana Music Show. If I can't import it into iTunes, I can't audition it.
It is helpful if you can also send the following with the album:
- Album Art
- Promotional Picture of the Artist / Band. The higher the resolution the better.
- A One Sheet about the album
- Links to electronic press kits etc.
No materials submitted to the Americana Music Show will be returned.
What NOT To Send To The Americana Music Show
The Americana Music Show plays a broad variety of music. But all of it builds into a sense of “americana.” So music you send should contribute to that goal. PLEASE listen to the show before submitting your music in order to not to waste everyone's time.
In particular, do NOT send the following:
- Kids music
- Celtic music (I love Celtic music, but it doesn't fit in the show format)
- Music primarily about sea-faring adventure.
- Instrumental-only music
- Heavily electronic music
- Holiday music (All episodes are intended to be "evergreen" so holiday music is not featured on the show.)
Who Can Submit Music
Anyone can submit music to the show as long as they agree to the music submission policy. Some artists/musicians have mistakenly assumed that because the show features "americana" music that only people from the United States can submit music. This is not true. Any band, musician, or song writer anywhere in the world is welcome to submit their work to the show as long as it contributes to and fits into the "americana" vibe.
